Anna’s Famous Sauce
Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Anna. She loved cooking chicken on a grill or in a smoker. She loved cooking chicken so much she invented her own sauce. She started to enter 4-H contests with her chicken when she was nine. She won almost all the time.
When her family started a competition BBQ team, naturally they wanted Anna to cook the chicken. But these were grown-up contests with burly BBQ men. A child could not be expected to compete. She won almost all the time.
People took note of the young chicken cook. Famous people. She appeared on the Food Network, BBQ TV, BBQ Crawl and was interviewed many times wearing her famous chicken hat.
One time, a not-so-famous competition team called Chicks in Charge entered a contest and their chicken cook couldn’t come. The Chicks humbly asked Anna if she would fill in. One of the Chicks (yes, me) shamelessly tried to figure out why Anna was such a great chicken cook. Anna was smarter than the Chick. She kept everything politely but firmly hidden from view. The Chick felt ashamed that she had attempted to steal secrets from a child.
She won the chicken category in that contest, catapulting The Chicks into a rare top five finish. As you can see, in that contest the team consisted of three old birds and a chicklet.
Anna is all grown up now. She graduated from the University of North Alabama and is the Crew Trainer for The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville. And after 13 years, she has realized another dream. She has bottled her famous sauce. It will be available in stores later this month.
